Applying for Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) through MeroShare is how most investors begin their financial journey in Nepal. However, relying solely on primary allotments limits your portfolio growth. If you want to actively buy high-performing company shares or sell your allotted IPO units at profit, you must enter the secondary market via the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE).
To participate in secondary trading, you need a Trade Management System (TMS) broker account. Fortunately, the days of visiting broker offices in person, filling out endless paper forms, and waiting weeks for manual verification are behind us. Today, you can complete the entire broker onboarding process from home using your smartphone or computer. This comprehensive guide walks you through every step required to set up your online NEPSE TMS account in 2026.
What is a NEPSE TMS Account and Why Do You Need One?
A NEPSE Trade Management System (TMS) account is an online platform provided by licensed securities brokers in Nepal. It acts as an execution bridge between individual retail investors and NEPSE’s automated trading engine.
While many beginners confuse MeroShare with TMS, both serve distinctly different functions:
- MeroShare: Managed by CDS and Clearing Limited (CDSC), MeroShare is your digital depository portal. It holds your electronic shares, lets you apply for IPOs via C-ASBA, check your portfolio holdings, calculate WACC, and transfer shares through Electronic Depository Instruction Slip (EDIS).
- NEPSE TMS: Provided by your registered stockbroker under Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) oversight. It provides real-time market depth, live price changes, order placement (buy/sell), collateral management, and trade execution.
In short: you cannot place a live buy or sell order on NEPSE without an active TMS login credentials linked to a licensed broker.
Prerequisites for Opening a Stock Broker Account Online
Before launching your online registration form, prepare these verified credentials to ensure smooth processing:
- Active 16-Digit Demat Number (BOID): You cannot open a trading account without an active Demat account registered with an approved Depository Participant (DP). If you do not have one yet, follow our guide on how to open a Demat account online in Nepal.
- Permanent Account Number (PAN): A personal PAN issued by the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) is legally required by SEBON for secondary market trades to track capital gains taxes accurately.
- Bank Account: An active bank account with any commercial or development bank in Nepal. Ideally, this should match the bank linked to your CRN number and Demat account for friction-free settlements.
- ConnectIPS Account: While not mandatory for registration itself, having ConnectIPS ready is essential for depositing trading collateral and completing electronic payouts.
Required Documents for Digital KYC Verification
When applying online, you must upload clear digital scans or photos of specific personal documents. Make sure images are clear, properly cropped, and under the file size threshold (usually under 500 KB to 1 MB per file in JPEG, PNG, or PDF format):
| Document Type | Specifications |
|---|---|
| Citizenship Certificate | Clear color copies of both front and back sides. (National Identity Card or Passport is also accepted if specified). |
| Passport-sized Photo | Recent digital photograph with a clean, light-colored background. |
| Applicant’s Signature | Your formal signature written cleanly with blue or black ink on blank white paper. |
| Thumbprints | Clear impressions of both right and left thumbs placed on clean white paper. |
| Location Sketch Map | A hand-drawn map indicating directions to your permanent or current residence from a prominent local landmark. |
| PAN Card Copy | Clear photo of your personal PAN card or a printed digital PAN certificate. |
| Bank Document | A photo of a cancelled cheque leaf or a formal bank statement header displaying your name, account number, and branch clearly. |
Step-by-Step Guide to Online TMS Account Opening in Nepal
Follow these progressive steps to complete your broker registration through the official NEPSE web portal:
Step 1: Access Your Chosen Broker’s TMS Portal
Every licensed broker in Nepal uses a dedicated URL structure assigned by NEPSE: https://tms[BrokerNumber].nepsetms.com.np. For example, if you register with Broker 49, you visit https://tms49.nepsetms.com.np. On the login page, click on New Registration or Client Registration.
Step 2: Enter General and Contact Details
Select your client category (usually Individual for personal accounts). Enter your active mobile phone number, personal email address, and PAN. Always double-check your email address, as your temporary login credentials and password reset activation link will be delivered there.
Step 3: Fill in Personal and Family Information
Fill out the online KYC form with your full name (exactly as it appears on your citizenship document), date of birth in Bikram Sambat (B.S.) and Anno Domini (A.D.), marital status, and parents’ and grandparents’ names. If you are registering an account on behalf of a minor, you must complete the guardian verification section.
Step 4: Specify Address Information
Provide your permanent address matching your official citizenship records, including Province, District, Municipality/Rural Municipality, and Ward Number. If your current living address differs, select and fill in your temporary residence details as well.
Step 5: Link Bank and Demat Information
Type in your 16-digit Beneficiary Owner Identification Number (BOID). Select your primary bank name, branch, and exact account number. Accuracy here is vital: any mismatch between the name on your Demat account, bank account, and TMS form will cause an automatic rejection by the broker’s compliance team.
Step 6: Upload Scanned KYC Documents
Attach the digital copies of your passport photo, citizenship (front/back), thumbprints, signature, location map, and bank cheque into their respective fields. Ensure no edges are cut off and all text remains legible.
Step 7: Review, Agree, and Submit
Read through the client agreement and SEBON compliance terms. Tick the confirmation checkboxes, review your entered data via the summary preview screen, and click Submit. Once submitted, note down the Reference/Application Number shown on your screen for tracking purposes.
How to Select the Best Stock Broker for Your Needs
With dozens of licensed brokerage companies operating across Kathmandu and regional hubs, choosing the right broker is critical for a smooth trading journey. Consider these factors before submitting your form:
- Fund Settlement Speed: Reliable brokers process sell proceeds directly to your bank account within T+2 settlement cycles without requiring multiple follow-up phone calls.
- Collateral Loading Support: Ensure the broker offers instant online collateral crediting via ConnectIPS, mobile banking, or digital wallets.
- Active Customer Support: Check if the brokerage maintains responsive communication channels such as dedicated customer care lines, WhatsApp/Viber helplines, or rapid email ticketing.
- Branch Proximity: While trading happens online, choosing a brokerage with a physical branch office near your city can be beneficial if you ever face identity mismatch disputes or documentation updates.
What Happens After Submission? TMS Approval & Login Activation
Once you click submit, your application sits in the broker’s KYC verification queue. Here is what to expect next:
- Compliance Review: The broker’s administrative staff compares your uploaded images against your submitted personal and bank information.
- Correction Notification (If Applicable): If an image is blurry or your bank name does not match your BOID, the broker will email you a correction link.
- Welcome Email and Client Code: Upon successful approval, you will receive an official email containing your unique Client ID (Username) and a one-time password activation link.
- Setting Up Your Password: Click the activation link within the specified timeframe (typically 24 to 72 hours), set a strong alphanumeric password, and establish your transaction PIN or two-factor authentication (2FA).
Connecting Demat, Bank Account, and Collateral in TMS
Having an active TMS account allows you to browse the live market, but executing trades requires financial settlement setup:
1. Managing Buying Collateral
Under SEBON regulations, you must deposit collateral before submitting a buy order. Log into your TMS portal, navigate to Collateral Management > Load Collateral, choose your digital payment method (e.g., ConnectIPS), and deposit your intended trading capital. The system will update your trading limit instantly or within a few minutes based on the broker’s margin settings.
2. Executing Sell Orders and EDIS
When you sell shares via TMS, you do not need upfront collateral. However, after your sell order is matched and executed on the floor, you must transfer those shares to your broker electronically. Log into your MeroShare account before the settlement cutoff and follow our comprehensive tutorial on how to transfer shares using MeroShare EDIS to avoid non-settlement penalty fines (close-out fees).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Do I need to physically visit the broker office to activate my online TMS account?
No. Under current SEBON guidelines, stockbrokers in Nepal are authorized to verify retail investors using electronic KYC (e-KYC). As long as your uploaded documents, thumbprints, signatures, and bank records are clear and consistent, physical visits are not required. A broker will only ask you to visit if there is an unresolved identity discrepancy.
How long does it take for a stockbroker in Nepal to approve an online TMS application?
Most active brokerage firms approve complete applications within 24 to 72 business hours. Processing times can take longer during high market volatility or massive IPO listing rallies. If your application remains pending past three working days, contact the broker’s compliance desk with your registration reference number.
Can I link one Demat account to multiple NEPSE broker accounts?
Yes. You can use the same 16-digit Demat number (BOID) to open trading accounts with different stockbrokers. However, each broker requires an independent registration, KYC verification, and unique TMS client code.
What is TMS collateral and how do I load funds to start buying secondary shares?
Collateral is a financial guarantee deposited with your broker to secure your buy orders. In your TMS dashboard, go to Collateral Management > Load Collateral, select ConnectIPS or your linked bank, enter the amount, and confirm payment. Once loaded, your available trading limit updates automatically.
Are there any registration fees for opening a broker account online?
Opening a NEPSE TMS broker account is free of charge. Stockbrokers do not levy an account opening or maintenance fee. You only incur regulatory SEBON fees, NEPSE transaction fees, and broker commissions when you execute actual buy or sell trades.
Conclusion
Opening an online stock broker account bridges the gap between passive IPO applications and active wealth creation in Nepal’s expanding capital market. By preparing your BOID, PAN, and digital KYC documents in advance, you can complete your TMS registration in less than twenty minutes. Ensure you select a responsive brokerage firm, load sufficient collateral responsibly, and always manage your investment risks with disciplined research.
